At Big Chief Tire, we know that too many of our customers hold off on tire replacement when trying to save money. That’s why we wanted to take the pressure off this holiday by giving a new set of tires to a family in need.
We asked our community to nominate deserving candidates, and our inbox was flooded. After reviewing nearly 100 submissions, Big Chief Tire awarded the prize to a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department first responder and his family.
Phillip was nominated by his wife, Katie, who describes him as a selfless and loving husband and father. The two recently celebrated 12 years of marriage.
When we asked Katie why she thought her husband should win new tires, she told us their story. Phillip and Katie have two small children: Caleb, 5, and Caroline, 2. Caroline has a serious medical condition that requires frequent doctor visits. For this reason, Katie left her job to provide the extra care her daughter needs. Katie told us that Phillip continuously works overtime at the fire department—sometimes 48-hour shifts at one of the busiest stations in town—to provide for his family.
“He makes sure that his children and family are taken care of at all times and gives way more than receives. He is selfless and loving and deserves the world.”
Katie tells us that Philip helps with everything without complaining. She describes him as the best dad and says they never go without thanks to his continuous hard work. Katie also told us that Philip drives an older truck and that the last time he replaced his tires was 6 years ago. Even then, he bought the tires used. This is because Philip’s priority is for his wife and kids.
It was our honor to surprise Philip with a brand new set of tires this holiday season. We thank Philip for his service to the community and we admire the sacrifice he makes in order to provide for his family.
Giving Back, Now and Later
The Holiday Tire Giveaway is just one of the many ways we give back to the Jacksonville community. This year, we began a back-to-school supply drive for local schools. We also sponsor several local school sports teams close to our employees’ hearts. We may just be a tire shop, but our team loves our city, and we want to do all we can to make a difference for good. We plan to give back to our neighbors and customers for many years to come.
